Inside the build: what a specialist EV workshop actually needs
From insulated tooling to the quarantine bay: the physical, human and procedural requirements that separate an EV-capable garage from an EV-specialist centre.

Plenty of garages now describe themselves as "EV ready". Usually that means a wall charger and a willingness to try. A specialist centre is a different animal, and the difference is visible from the floor plan up.
The physical build
- A dedicated high-voltage bay, physically separated, with restricted access while a pack is open. Live-work rules apply — barriers, signage and insulated matting are not optional decoration.
- A battery quarantine zone. A damaged pack is a fire that has not started yet. It needs distance, monitoring and a clear path for removal — a requirement most retrofitted garages simply cannot meet.
- Lifting for skateboard platforms. Pack removal means supporting several hundred kilograms with millimetre precision under a car designed to hide its fixings.
- Insulated tooling and PPE, tested and logged. Class 0 gloves have a certification cycle; a specialist tracks it the way an airline tracks flight hours.
The people
Equipment is the easy half. Every technician working on live systems needs certified high-voltage training, and at least one senior technician needs the authority — and the standing — to stop any job on safety grounds. In every market we enter, the technician pipeline is the true constraint, which is why the EVS model ships with its own training pathway rather than assuming the labour market will provide.
The procedures
De-energising and proving dead. Torque documentation on every high-voltage fastener. Insulation-resistance testing after any repair near the pack. Software version control, because a car is now something you can break with a laptop.
None of this is beyond a well-run operator — but it is a system, not a shopping list. That system is what an EVS franchise actually transfers: the build spec, the training pathway, the procedures and the commercial model, proven across our own centres first.
