Selling an EV? The battery certificate is your best negotiator

Used-EV buyers fear one thing above all: the pack. A certified battery health report converts that fear into a price — usually in the seller's favour.

Every used-EV negotiation contains a silent third party: the battery. The buyer cannot see its condition, so they price for the worst. The seller knows the car is fine, but knowing is not proving. That gap — buyer fear minus seller knowledge — comes straight off the asking price.

A certified battery health report closes it.

What certification changes

An independent, instrumented state-of-health certificate does three things:

  1. Converts uncertainty into a number. "The battery is at 91% of rated capacity, with cell spread inside manufacturer tolerance" is a sentence a buyer can finance.
  2. Shifts the conversation to the car. With the pack off the table, the negotiation returns to normal territory: condition, history, spec.
  3. Signals the owner. A seller holding a certificate is a seller who maintained the car. The document reprices the whole vehicle, not just the battery.

Market data across Europe consistently shows certified used EVs selling faster and at a premium of several percent — more than the certificate costs by an order of magnitude.

When to test

  • Before listing the car, obviously.
  • Before a lease return, so a degradation claim can be contested with data.
  • At purchase of a used EV — the certificate works for buyers too.
  • Every year or two through ownership, building a degradation history that itself becomes a sales asset. A pack that shows shallow, linear decline over three reports is worth more than one with a single snapshot.

Any EVS centre can run the test in under an hour, with a report accepted by dealers and insurers across our network. It is the cheapest bodywork your car will never need.
